How Holdings Are Sourced
Scope
The holdings are investments by state-owned investors of Qatar (Qatar Investment Authority and its subsidiaries), Saudi Arabia (Public Investment Fund and its subsidiaries), the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Mubadala Investment Company and its subsidiaries, ADQ, the Investment Corporation of Dubai and L'imad) in companies whose business address on file with the SEC is in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, a European country or Australia. The records run from November 16, 2007 to July 30, 2026: 127 investor and target pairs, by the document that first disclosed each:
| Disclosure | Holdings |
|---|---|
| Issuer or fund release | 36 |
| Schedule 13G | 35 |
| Form 3 | 30 |
| Schedule 13D | 10 |
| Schedule 13G/A | 8 |
| Form 4 | 5 |
| Schedule 13D/A | 3 |
3 of the funds file Form 13F.
Sources
- SEC EDGAR filings made by each investor: Schedules 13D and 13G (beneficial ownership above 5 percent of a listed class), Forms 3, 4 and 5 (insider ownership), and Form 13F (quarterly holdings of institutional managers). Retrieved from EDGAR through the data.sec.gov submissions service and the filing archives.
- Issuer and investor releases and annual reports, where a record cites one.
- Aggregate foreign investment reviews appear in the CFIUS annual reports, which do not name transactions.
Definitions
- Holding
- One investor and one target company. The date is the first filing or release that discloses the holding. Later filings on the same holding are listed on the record page.
- Disclosure
- The document type that first disclosed the holding (Schedule 13D, Schedule 13G, Form 3, Form 4 or a release).
- Stake
- Percent of the class stated on the cover page of a Schedule 13D or 13G. Forms 3 and 4 report share counts, not percents.
- Amount
- Stated only when a source states it, in the currency the source uses. Schedules 13D and 13G rarely state a price.
- Status
- Announced (a release states an agreement), Completed (a filing reports the investor holds the securities, or a release states closing) or Withdrawn (a release states termination).
- Sector
- Grouped from the Standard Industrial Classification code the SEC assigns the target.
- Target country
- From the business address the target reports to the SEC.
- 13F value
- U.S. dollars as reported. Filings made before January 3, 2023 reported values in thousands; they are multiplied by 1,000.
Update Cadence
Checked daily against EDGAR. New filings by the listed investors are queued for review before they are added.
Other MEF Records
Gulf money also reaches U.S. universities and lobbyists: the Influence Tracker holds Section 117 gift and contract disclosures and FARA registrations, and the Campus Watch Map places that funding on specific campuses.
